The Five Star Stories
Written by Andromeda
There are many kingdoms in the Joker Systems, which is made up of five systems. Every kingdom has knights and these knights don't ride horses but control large mechs called Mortarr Headds. To help control these massive mechs are Fatimas. These Fatimas, human in appearance have physical capabilities far better than that of humans that enables them to control the Mortarr Headds at the guidance of the Knights, known as Headd liners.
The OVA Five Star Stories tells of what happens when a doctor decides not to erase the memories of the fatimas while they sleep through their teenage years and into adulthood. This allows them to choose what knight will be their master at a ceremony held at the Count's Palace. The perverted Count wants the two newly awakened Fatimas for himself, having plans for power, like any corrupt leader would have.
Having sworn her heart to Ladios, a Meister who is often mistaken for a woman, Fatima Lachesis will put some kinks into the Count's plans for having her sister as a slave. Now on the day of the choosing, where a large gathering of royalty has gathered to witness the choices made by the Fatimas on who their masters will be. Will Lachesis be able to choose Ladios, who isn't a knight, or will she be forced to make another decision?
Having read some of the background for Five Star Stories, there is a lot of information that was put into the manga. If you haven't read the manga you may feel like there's something missing from time to time while watching the OVA. Like with some movies and OVAs, it's presumed that you already know the background of the storyline, and this time there's no exception. Thankfully ADV helps us out with inserting a pamphlet into the DVD case that will give you some background information on the characters. Believe me, it helps. After having watched this, I wished that it had been made into a series.
It's an older anime, and most of the younger generation of anime watchers tend to push aside older titles such as this. Even with the gaps of information and old artwork, it's an amazing story with a great battle scene. It's the story of a love that wasn't meant to be and of hard decisions of whether to follow through with what you feel or let it be a painful memory. It's a story about being true to your heart and being with the one person you would want to share the rest of your life with. There's nothing like a science fiction romance with mechs.
My Recommendation: See it, whether you rent it, buy it, or borrow it
