"Nerima Daikon Brothers continues to entertain through volume 2 with it's wonderful writing, direction, and two sets of great casts."
The Nerima Daikon Brothers continue their quest for fame, fortune, and love?! The shows continues it's singing, dancing adventure, but what's this little subplot? Is this extra depth?! Nahhhh...couldn't be. Maybe?
NDB Vol. 2 rolls on with four more episodes where our trio continue to get into trouble, try to steal some money, and come away empty. Bummer. First, there's a new No.1 Host in town, and Ichiro has been told to see what he's doing to get all the business. They interview No. 1 who says that he just pretty much "rolls" the women up and takes their money. Literally, rolls them around. Ichiro gets the hint and tries getting a little bit rougher with his women, by smacking the crap out of Mako! And she likes it. Hey, sometimes you need to assert yourself I guess. Anyways, they follow No.1 back to his house to see that he is not only married, but completely under the thumb of his Iron Handed Wife. Literally. They sure do have a lot of money though, they can't let a guy who rolls women around make off with all that cash can they?
The band then runs across Madame Gokutsuboshi, a fortune teller that is never wrong. She's also the ugliest character I've seen in anime in quite a long time. Anyways, she's a regular at Ichiro's host club and when Mako asks about her future, she's conned into spending a million yen for an equally ugly pot. Otherwise, she's going to die! Yeah right. The Brothers aren't going to put up with this crap, so they're going to get their money back as well as everyone else's money. The rest of the episodes of the disc pretty much continue on the same way, except with a lawyer trying to play Hideki off for a sucker (not hard to do) and an owner of a shopping mart who is selling gigolos to aliens. You read that right.
The show continues to sing and dance it's way through each episode, but this set added some funny little twists. Hideki is really pushing his love for Mako hard in this set of episodes, going so far to try to amend the constitution to allow it (it already does). Mako starts to fall hard for Ichiro after he slaps the crap out of her not once, but twice. Sadly, that technique just doesn't work for Hideki. Gadget Detective Yukika expresses her love for both Ichiro and Pandaikon in several episodes as well. She lets loose a love song about a Panda that is just weird even for me. Where does Ichiro stand in all this? Well, lets just say that his solo in episode 8 is one of the most BRUTAL songs I've ever heard. I could not stop laughing.
Nerima Daikon Brothers continues to entertain through volume 2 with it's wonderful writing, direction, and two sets of great casts. While it doesn't catch you by surprise with it's awesomeness like it did in the first set of episodes, it makes up for it by adding some raunchy twists and other little things to break up the show's tempo. Such as Nabeshin (the rental shop owner) breaking into the band's songs for him or making them sing it again. The show is loaded from top to bottom with puns, parodies, sexual innuendo, and more. Most important, NDB is loaded with pure fun. Which is the most important thing. I can't wait to see how they finish this series up.
