"I definitely recommend this series for any action sci-fi nut."

"Put this one on your Christmas List to Santa. "

Manga artist Yoshiki Takaya, in 1986, unleashed a freshly conceived bionic marvel to the world, Guyver. From the 140+ volume manga came two live-action movies and an anime series. This anime series helped launch the first wave of anime fever nearly fifteen years ago for those of us in North America. Now a brand new Guyver series is here for our viewing enjoyment thanks to ADV.

Deciding to investigate a mysterious explosion near school, Sho and his friend, Tetsurou, stumble across something strange. Curious as guys tend to be, Sho picks up the strange object to check it out, but something happens that he never imagined would, nor his friend. Be careful of strange objects you find in the woods, they could be hazardous to your health.... or could just save you and your friend's life.

Upon finding this object comes many questions. What is it? Is it man-made or alien-made? Could it be some secret military project? Now being pursued by strange men and the stranger creatures that emerge from these men, these questions will soon be answered for Sho? hopefully.

Sho's once simple life has now become a bit more complicated. Since his encounter with this bio-armor, his body has developed a strange rash on his back, which has him running far away from the school physical. What also has him running is an army of bio-monsters from the Chronos Corporation who want the Guyver unit back. But how does he give it back? Better yet, does he want to give this powerful weapon back?

With each encounter, Sho learns a new weapon that the Guyver is equipped with. With each encounter, he is able to defeat his foe. But with episode three, a new foe, one unlike the bio-monsters appears. It's another Guyver unit. Inexperienced with the bio-armor, will he be able to defeat this new Guyver unit that poses a threat to his life? And just who are these people from Chronos?

If you think the names sound familiar, well you're right. It's the same story rehashed, bringing in a fresh new look with a new soundtrack. It's no different than what some TV companies have done with an old series or movie companies remaking classics. With better artwork and CG at your fingertips, the series is more visually attractive. But now we have twice the episodes for our viewing enjoyment.

I've only seen three episodes so far out of twenty six, but what I've seen, I've enjoyed and want to see more. It has plenty of action and the anime is crisp and clean. The opening and ending themes make me want to grab the soundtrack as soon as it's available. I definitely recommend this series for any action sci-fi nut. Being a Guyver fan, I was quite excited to see this series done again. Put this one on your Christmas List to Santa.
