Gilgamesh Volume 5: As Truth Breaks Like Glass, is another unforgettable volume in this unique Gothic sci-fi mystery from ADV Films.
Synopsis:
As Mitleid?s ruthless corporate raider examines ?every inch? of Tatsuya?s body, he has a soul-shaking revelation. Of even more consequence, this truth has an equally powerful impact on his fellow psychics in Orga, who decide to slip behind the Countess? back for their own secret meeting with the widow?s enemy to find out what he knows about them. Meanwhile, Tatsuya?s sister gets a surprise visitor as well when Septem, a beautiful (and jealous) new Gilgamesh, seeks to lure Novem from Kiyoko?and out of her bed. But even if Septem succeeds in spiriting Novem away, Kiyoko is not exactly alone. For she reveals a surprising, shockingly powerful new ally who will vex the plans of the Countess and her suit-clad, power-mad foe, shattering every one, every thing, and every side in this dark, deceptive war.
Reviews:
Gilgamesh isn?t an anime about the supernatural, although it does have a gothic atmosphere rife with mythological and religious symbolism, this is suspenseful sci-fi thriller filled with mystery and intrigue. We see the type of political machinations by those in power that you might have witnessed if you had been in the Elizabethan court. With this volume bringing the series ever closer to the edge of finality, we are drawn further into the series secrets. At last we learn the original of not only Tatsuya?s existence but that of the Orga children as well. Those traumatic and startling revelations are nothing compared to the shock of Kiyoko?s secret. The events that unfold in this volume could very well mean the change of everything. No person is what they seem in this series. Riveting, at times darkly hypnotic, Gilgamesh rises to 9.5 out of 10 black katanas for superb story telling. Anime doesn?t get much better than this.
