"...serious science fiction story and some strong layered storytelling..."
Misaki Chronicles Volume 2 Revelations turns up the tension in this taut science fiction suspense released by ADV Films.
Synopsis:
A glimpse into her father's past triggers something in Misaki, sending shockwaves through time and space. Behind the temporal barrier, the Earth suddenly phases out as Watcher's Nest phases in! The time: shortly before the exodus.
The remaining Seraphim pilots are called to investigate, which flings Suzanna head-on into a jarring encounter with reality. But her shock is only a tremor compared to the shock everyone gets upon the return of someone else: the shadowy Lieutenant Commander LeBlanc. With the Ghoul poised to invade, the ladies of Seraphim must decide whether to bend to his hidden agenda and form a makeshift alliance that may seal their fate!
Review (please note: reviews may contain some spoilers):
Hot on the heels of the release of the original series Divergence Eve, its sequel Misaki Chronicles comes out thick with intrigue and layered plots to tell a suspenseful story. Readers might wonder if you can watch the sequel without having seen the original. The answer is ?Yes?. I watched Volume 1 of Misaki before having seen Divergence Eve and had no trouble following the plot. It did, however, lack the same depth of emotional impact before I had seen the first series where we learn of the brutal hardships Misaki and her colleagues suffered on Watcher?s Nest. So, if you can, watch Divergence Eve first. Of course once you do, you?ll be compelled to watch Misaki Chronicles to find out what happens next.
Volume 2 of Misaki finds things thrown at the viewer fast and furious as revelation after revelation is revealed. Since this is only a three volume series it isn?t surprising that the appearance of three surprise characters lends to the immediacy and the deepening of the mystery surrounding the time barrier surrounding the Earth and affecting the time continuum. Is Misaki trying to save humanity or is she too lost in a cage of time? As the entire universe lies on the brink of annihilation will Misaki?s friends be able to save her and themselves? And with the sinister LeBlanc?s questionable intrusion in their lives is he truly trying to help them or does he have a ore nefarious plan to unleash on them at the worst moment? Watch the next exciting volume of Misaki Chronicles to find out!
The animation style uses a lot of royal colors combined with softer ones particularly when it comes to the female characters. An advantage over the original series, the sequel sports animation less heavy handed with the CG animation, blending it a little better and using it more effectively. Combine that with the serious science fiction story and some strong layered storytelling for such a brief series, Misaki Chronicles Volume 2 earns 8.5 out of 10 katanas.
