"For those of you who avoid the romantic stuff, you?ll be missing out on a great anime."
"...this isn?t a make you cry romance story, but a fuzzy warm all over, isn?t love grand type of love story."
Okay, all you romance lovers, grab your favorite box of chocolates, slip
Diamond Daydreams into your DVD player and curl up on your couch. Don?t worry, this isn?t a make you cry romance story, but a fuzzy warm all over, isn?t love grand type of love story. These tales aren?t some fantasy created in some fantasy land but stories that can and do happen every day.
Even in this day and age, marriages are arranged. But what of those girls who don?t want to get married, who want to be like all their friends? Isn?t part of being young having fun? Going out? Dating? For Atsuko, she doesn?t get to be young like she wants to but has to deal with the responsibilities that life has dealt her. Her story is quiet common with a lot of young adults and many watchers can relate to her, minus the whole arranged marriage thing.
Karin on the other hand is ill, lives for her dreams and fears what will save her life. Those around her don?t really understand, even her own family. In her dreams, there is always a prince who takes her to break taking places that she herself cannot go because of her illness. But what if her prince was a real person? What if the person from her dreams manifested into someone she could touch? We have all had a dream romance and wished that it could come true.
In the first volume of
Diamond Daydreams, you?ll find yourself hoping that these two girls, Atsuko and Karin, find their true loves and that they will look upon Diamond Dust Drops in the sky and forever be in love. You can?t help but to relate with them and possibly reminisce about a love you?ve lost or the one you are with.
One thing I like about this story is that all the girls live in Hokkaido. There are little things here and there that show they connect, like the Cappuccino Break on the radio. At some point in this series all the girls do meet. It makes me curious as to how and if they had ever run into each other before. Like for instance, Atsuko works in her mother?s fish market. So it makes me wonder, have any of the others bought from there.
The artwork is beautifully drawn.
Diamond Daydreams is also a popular PS2 game. Since I haven?t played it, I can?t compare the art of two nor the characters and their stories. Though, I do wonder what type of game it is. With the way the graphics are now days with games, I?m sure it is just as beautiful as the anime.
The opening and ending themes fit so well with the story. The opening is upbeat, great for a group of young girls. The ending is more romantic, in tune with the stories that unfold.
For those of you who avoid the romantic stuff, you?ll be missing out on a great anime. Take it from one who avoids romantic stuff as much as possible.
