Petite Princess Yucie vol. 1

Review
Yucie is an adorable, cheerful little girl with one problem: she is seventeen years old, but has the body of a ten year old. She has a curse that doesn't let her body age past ten years old and is constantly teased because of it.

One night Yucie sees a strange light in one of the castle towers so she sneaks into the castle to find out what it is. There she is offered the opportunity to become a Platinum Princess candidate by none other than the queen herself. The chance of becoming the Platinum Princess comes around only once every one thousand years. If she becomes the Platinum Princess, she will be granted one wish, which she wants to use to make her physical appearance match her age.

Yucie then begins attending school at the princess academy. This episode introduces Yucie's rival, Glenda, who is 'the princess of the demon world, with elegant beauty and fantastic magical powers.' Well, in her words that is. Her body is also cursed and she too is stuck with the body of a child. Glenda shows up every now and then with something to argue about with Yucie. While characters like this can get annoying at times, I found the fighting to be funny and cute at the same time.

The next three episodes have Yucie working at a part time job. She needs to work because it is a part of her training at the Princess Academy. Her first job has her working at a Bakery, in which she gets a little involved with the owner's private life and helps him sort things out with his daughter. Her next part time job has her babysitting, except she is watching a baby animal that looks like a giant piece of cotton candy. Her third job has her working on a farm and it shows some of her past when she met the prince. Each of these episodes has her using some magic to help her accomplish her goals.

I listened to the dub for this disc and it was really good. Yucie's voice actress fits so well it's almost scary. On the visual side of things the show looks fantastic, with excellent animation and beautiful art. The character designs are cute and their movements are very fluid looking. The show looks like something out of a fairytale.

Petite Princess Yucie is one of those 'feel good' shows that had me smiling through a lot of it. I had so much fun watching this disc and I can't wait for more.

The menu has a cute super deformed image of Yucie on the left in her brown school uniform against a blue background with little designs flowing in the background. All of the episodes are available from the main menu and there is no scene select menu.
