"Lady Death is one hot babe!"
Feature Presentation: Special thanks to ADV Films for sending me a copy for a review for this site. Well, first of all, I just want to note that this isn't really Anime, but Japanese artists did design & animated this movie. It is based of an epic comic book series. It's not that bad for a comic to movie, even I never read the comic book version before. This movie reflects on how Hope transformed herself to Lady Death, a history on how she came to Hell. I was hoping to be something more spooky, as this is a horror movie, but it's more blood & gore then anything else. Nothing that can really scare you silly. The battle for Hell as begun.
Video: ADV Films have release this movie in theaters & did a really nice release on DVD. To top things off, the series is feature on Widescreen format. To top things off, the movie is feature on Widescreen format. If you got a Widescreen TV, you're going to enjoy this even more. I do note that you can skip all those warnings & logos when you first load the DVD by just pressing the 'Menu' button on your remote control.
Dubbing: English: Actually, there is no real dubbing, as this movie isn't actually come from Japan, so it's 100% English only. First of all, I just want to say this, but I find that the dialogue a bit too repetitive, which make it a bit boring & annoying at times.
Audio 01: English 5.1: Unable to test it, since I don't have a 5.1 surround system, I can't really say much.
Audio XX: English 2.0: Just letting you know, there isn't an English 2.0 audio track on this DVD. This is artificially made from the 5.1 audio track, that's why I noted it as 'XX'. I found no problem with the audio, but I bet it would be alot more interesting with the 5.1. It sound clear, got no problem.
Subtitle: ADV Films have selected a great font, very easy to read. The color Yellow is use for all the subtitling. There is only one subtitling track, which is for the hearing impaired.
Menu Option: The menu is also in widescreen format, but if got just a regular full screen TV, it will display in that format with no problem. As we're in Hell, the layout is in a cemetary. It still hold the 'Play', 'Screen Selection', 'Setup' & 'Extras'. There isn't any background music, just sounds of a thundering storm that is coming.
DVD Extras: The extras are pretty standard. There are two featurettes, one have original drawing & designs for the characters & layout that we see in the movie. The second one, you get to meet the animators of the movie. The only thing that bugs me that they actually dubbed what they are trying to say, as they are Japanese animators, instead leaving it with subtitles only. The last one is an audio commentary from the ADV producers for the entire movie. It really cool to get more in-depth views on how the movie came to be.
Packaging: The package is really nice with a metallic finish. On the cover, you see Lady Death, Lucifer & one of his minions with a cemetary background. On the back, there is only three screenshots from the movie, along with a open bloody wound with skulls in the background. The only problem is the details about the movie. It's just bad grammar I see & due to the metallic finish, it's very hard to read the credit cast & extra listed, too. The insert is pretty simple. You have the same image as the cover, along with the chapter lising of the movie. On the DVD disc itself, it's the same as the back cover, open bloody wound with skulls in the background.
PC Viewing: Watching it on the PC is the same as watching it on the TV. Very clean, no problem at all, very little pixel (little squares popping in & out), both normal mode & full screen mode. The sound is just great. The movie is place on one single track, so loading time is really small. You can fast forward to the begining to the end with one move on your mouse! Like on your regular DVD player, you can skip the warnings & logos when you load the disc, just use the 'menu' option to go to the menu screen.
Overall DVD Rating: It make you curious what will happen next after the movie, but you need to go seek out the comic book version of Lady Death. However, the movie isn't so bad, but I was hoping for something scary. The dialogue need to be improve a bit more. Beside all that, Lady Death is one hot babe!
Overall Rating Feature Presentation: The battle for Hell as begun. Video (Images) Crisps & clear! No problem found. Dubbing: English The dialogue a bit too repetitive Audio 01: English 5.1 N/A N/A Audio XX: English 2.0 No problem found. Subtitle: English One subtitling track, which is for the hearing impaired Menu Option: Simple, yet nice. DVD Extras: Very cool commentary about & the making of the movie. Packaging: I like the metallic finish, but unable to read the extra & credit list. PC Viewing: Easy to view, clean, no problem! Overall DVD Rating: The movie isn't so bad, but need to be more scary!
