Sin: The Movie is based on the PC game, Sin. It is an American movie from ADV Films done in anime-style ? including a Japanese voice track! In the near future, the city of Freeport is in a state of chaos. Elexis Sinclair of SinTEK is creating the next, mutated, step in humanity's evolution ... her attempt to take over the world. Blade and his team from HARDCORPS (an elite strike force) must top her at any cost.
Often times, movies based on games have trouble making the shift, but Sin is the exception. The extras include behind the scene interviews that convey that everyone working on creating this movie put their all into it to make it the amazing animation that it is. The animation quality is superb. It's high-energy and action-packed with wonderful characters and an intense, well-developed plot. Both sets of voice actors do a great job. The found Japanese seiyuu who matched the tonal qualities of the English voice actors for the most part. The art is good too. The anime style is spot-on, but it is the special effects and the mutants that steal the limelight. The characters include a beautiful and insane villianess, a cyborg protgonist, mutants galore, and a child who is the link between humans and the mutated, advanced race. It is a fantasy world that is easy to get sucked into for an hour.
This is the Special Collectors Edition so there are tons of extras on the DVD and the soundtrack is included. The extras include the interviews I mentioned before, which I found extremely interesting, as well as storyboards, concept art, character profiles, production sketches, and a photo gallery. You can also watch it in Japanese with English subtitles (optional) just like anime. In fact, most people will think it is an anime, but it's not ? just anime style. The soundtrack is a good match for the movie. There's a good blend of dark, bold music for fight scenes, and softer, more airy music for quieter scenes. The score is excellent, and enjoyable to listen to on its own.
It may not be a story to everyone's liking, but thoroughly enjoyed watching Sin. It's a sci-fi/fantasy noir with lots of action and violence and a fair amount of blood/gore. If you've seen it before, or want to give it a try, the Collectors Edition is what you should get. The extras really delve you deeper into it, making it more enjoyable.
