ADV in 2003 pt. 3.2
Here's part 2 in our look back at the year that was for ADV Films:
· On May 19th at the world-famous Cannes Film Festival in France ADV announced the firm has acquired the rights to produce and has already begun development of a live-action feature-film based on the Japanese animated television series ?Neon Genesis Evangelion? a multi-million dollar worldwide franchise and perhaps the most influential anime title in the history of the art form. The project is a collaboration between ADV Films GAINAX and Weta Workshop Ltd.
· Voices of a Distant Star a Japanese animated short film created by animation prodigy Makoto Shinkai using a spectacular blend of traditional cel and lush computer-generated (CG) animation was released by ADV Films on June 10 2003. The film made its North American debut in a special screen co-sponsored by ADV Films and producer CoMix Wave Inc. at San Diego ComicCon International in August 2002.
· On October 21 2003 ADV Films released Saint Seiya: The Power of the Cosmos Lies Within first volume of the highly anticipated fantasy-action anime series and U.S. DVD premiere of the title. The series acquired domestically by DIC Entertainment is based on a manga by Masami Kurumada and produced by one of the top animation studios Toei Animation (Digimon Sailor Moon Dragon Ball).
· ADV Films released the first of seven volumes of the hit 25-episode anime series Final Fantasy: Unlimited on October 28 2003. Following its Anime Network? debut the DVD-only release for the fantasy/adventure title companion to the acclaimed ?Final Fantasy? series of role-playing video games.
· ADV Films released Hello Kitty?s Paradise: The Holiday Box Set on October 28 2003 for the 2003 holiday season. This four-disc set in custom seasonal art box includes all 16 episodes from the four volumes of the enormously popular animated children?s series Hello Kitty?s Paradise.
· After receiving critical acclaim during its theatrical release on August 8 2003 in LA and New York Princess Blade the stunningly beautiful Japanese martial arts motion picture was released on DVD by ADV Films on November 18 2003.
